In Need of a Home: Runt

Runt is a neutered 7 year old male cat looking for a new home. He is such an amazing cat with a wonderful personality. All he ever desires is attention and love. He has quite a motor on him and will purr and purr while being peted. Runt will make anyone’s day so much brighter after they pick him up.

He gives the best hugs, is so affectionate, and loves to snuggle. Runt seems to get along very well with other cats and he is open to having a dog as a friend. Although he has his claws he does a wonderful job using his favorite scratching post.

In his free time he enjoys playing with strings or ribbons and napping in the sun. He is very helpful with office work; he loves to bat at pens or pencils and does a good job at being a paper weight.

Runt has unfortunately been moved around a lot and strongly desires a permanent forever home soon. Won’t you please let him hug you forever?

In Need of a Home: Mikey

Little Mikey, a Chihuahua/ dachshund mix, has recently lost his best friend and caregiver; he is now looking for a new loving forever home.  Will you please spread the news and help him get settled as quickly as possible?

Mikey is a neutered, healthy and active 9 year old.  He has been lovingly pampered and can be finicky with what he eats (likes table scraps); but makes an excellent lap dog!  A house with an older owner and no children will likely be best for him at this point in his life.

In Need of a Home: Pedro

Who doesn’t love a charming Chihuahua?!?  And Pedro, we must say, has an extra dose of charm!  This heart-stealer is 1 year old, neutered, up to date on vaccines, and ready for a forever home.

A good samaritan walked in our door, carrying Pedro, who had bailing twine twisted around both his neck and belly.  He had been tangled this way so long that it actually ate into his skin.  Aside from some scarring, though, he is all healed.

He went home with a foster mom who has a two year old son- he and Pedro hit it off immediately!  Pedro also did well with her dogs and cat.

Ask anyone in our building and they will tell you “Pedro is a lover”; he’s a snuggler, a definite people-person (except, of course, for the fact that he’s a dog).  Think you can find a spot in your home for this little guy?  Please call us at 970-330-7283 to arrange a meeting.

In Need of a Home: Brutus

Brutus is… well… to be honest, we’re not entirely sure WHAT breed Brutus is, but we have no doubt that he will steal your heart!  He appears to be a Terrier mix- of the terribly cute variety.  “Playful” is the first adjective that always comes to tech’s minds when they think of him; Brutus loves attention and has a fun personality!    

Weld County Animal Control Unit brought him in to us several weeks ago.  He presented with Demodectic Mange* and is responding very well to treatment.  He will, however, require continuation of his meds for another several weeks.  Brutus also has a healing cruciate ligament tear which is a knee injury that, in a dog his size, can heal without surgery; he may develop arthritis later in life, though. 


Judging by his teeth and health, he appears to be right around 1 year old, has not had any potty accidents, and is improving on the leash.  Due to his contagious (to puppies) nature when he first arrived, he has been relatively sequestered and we are not yet sure how he will be around other dogs or cats.  He is not yet neutered, but our doctors are happy to do that as part of the adoption package.  Vaccines are up to date.

*Demodectic Mange is a common infestation of a dog’s skin with tiny mites that live in and feed off of hair follicles.  These mites do cause hair loss and irritated skin, but once treated the dog's hair should all grow back.  Once eliminated, most adult dogs should have immunity.  Even though most adult dogs likely have immunity, it is best to restrict contact until treatment is finished- just to be safe.

In Need of a Home: Osa

This pup’s adorable furry face earned her the name Osa (bear) by our technicians, but the foster mom’s 3 year old son has decided she should be Princess Cali.  We have no doubt that once you meet her, you will also be drawn in to her cuteness and likely a new name will come to you, too! 

Princess Cali Osa is approximately 3 months old.  She was brought to us by a good Samaritan with facial injuries consistent with being thrown from a moving car.  Her jawbone was fractured and has since healed; as she grows, she may have some residual aesthetic issues, but is fine physically.  All vaccinations are up to date but because she is so young, she will require boosters and further vaccines.

As far as personality goes…
This little sweetheart is great with kids, other dogs, and cats alike.  She is doing well on her potty training; not quite there, but getting close.  Even at her young age, she is sleeping through the night without accidents.  Her foster mom, Sarah, has been bathing and trimming her regularly so she is used to being handled in that fashion.  Being a puppy, she does chew on things and exhibits normal puppy behavior.  She does go up and down stairs and jumps up on the couch, but then gets scared to jump back down.  She will bark if she needs anything- such as help getting off the couch!

In need of a home: Maple the kitten

 It was early March when a good samaritan walked in our door carrying this adorable little stray kitten with an abscessed cat bite on her leg.  After patching her up and spaying her, she was on the quick road to recovery and was showing her appreciation with lots of love.  Maple, as she has since been named, is approximately 1 year old.  She has a very sweet nature and a curious attitude; she also has endless love and will follow you all around the house.  She was fostered for 2 months by one of our employees but is still looking for her forever home.  Anyone interested in meeting this adorable girl, please call 970-330-7283.

In Need of a Home, Eve the Border Collie

Even living here spending most of her time in a hospital kennel, Eve is a happy, high-energy, happy-go-lucky pup. She was a bit of a challenge to photograph, because every time I got down to her level, she rushed over to give me kisses.

She was abandoned and injured, so animal control brought her to us for treatment. We have since fixed her dislocated elbow and she shows no evidence that it ever happened. She still has- and will likely always have- nystagmus (see below) but even so, she doesn’t seem to let it bother her at all.



Eve is an approximately 1 year old, black and white border collie mix; with the usual fun attitude that comes with that breed. Our doctors suspect she is spayed but if not, we will be happy to perform the surgery at no additional cost

The involuntary eye movements of nystagmus are caused by abnormal function in the areas of the brain that control eye movements. The part of the inner ear that senses movement and position (the labyrinth) helps control eye movements.

I personally have nystagmus. I do feel a bit dizzy at times, especially when changing position quickly, but other than that have not had any issues.

Update: Good news! Klyde the kitty has gone to his new home with two Boston Terriers- he's adding to an all black-and-white house. :)

We’ve got the perfect kitty in our midst. Now we just need to find a perfect home for him…



Meet Klyde. Klyde came to us through Weld County animal control for severe laceration repair. Klyde purrs. And purrs. And purrs. Even when the technicians clean his must-be-really-painful wound sites, Klyde purrs. To show his adoration, he leans in to you and snuggles. When he is let out to roam with the techs, he is a little shadow at their feet.

We have seen him snuggle up to a big dog (Gordon Setter), but have yet to test him with other cats and/or young children. The only real caveat to adopting Klyde is that he sticks so close to you that he may trip up unstable senior citizens.

Klyde is an approximately 1 year old, neutered, black and white kitten; and is super cute.

He truly is the sweetest little stray cat- won’t you be his forever home?

Hi there! We are adorable dogs in need of the best home possible. Our owners are forced to give us up due to allergies. They love us so very much and are so heartbroken to give us up so they want to ensure that we go to a very special family. We are like two peas in a pod and MUST be adopted together to the same home. Lily is a spayed female Lhasa Apso mix and Gigi is spayed female Miniature Pincher. We have a few dogs that are our friends but we have no cat friends because Gigi will chase them. We do great with kids, especially because we like to play so much! We need a home that will keep us mainly indoors but we sure do love to spend time outside as well. Our new family must have a fenced backyard where we can lay out in the sunshine and relax. Gigi must be on a leash when not out in her fenced yard, she will run away if not. We both will go to the bathroom outside or on pee pads and we are crate trained also. Lily has food allergies and must be kept on a special diet. At times her allergies will flare up and she has to go to the doctor to get on some medicine. She gets a fish oil supplement daily that helps her skin. We are both such special dogs and we would love to go to a home where we would get nice and spoiled.

This is Theodora (some call her Pixie). She was brought to West Ridge a stray. They think she is about 9 months old and she sure acts like it! This is the best Chihuahua ever! She is currently in a West Ridge team member’s house getting potty and kennel trained (She’s a fast learner!) plus then she gets to play and run around much more and gets lots of attention from people. Wherever you go, she’ll be right there with you. But if you need to sit at a computer or relax watching a movie, she curls right up in your lap happily or if you take a nap, she won’t leave your side and will only get up when you do.

Always hoping for a treat.

Chewing on raw hide bones is a favorite past time of hers. She’s a great pup! She loves resting her head on a person’s arm and getting her neck scratched is her favorite! Although Theodora may be a bit shy of other pets at first, she’s itching to play in no time! Theodora would love to come into your house and bring all of her irresistible charm to you!

2 Kittens in need of a home

These two kittens are 6 months old, born on Aug 19th 2009. They are both very loveable and playful and purr with just a touch. Both are females and have not been spayed yet. As they are sisters, I would prefer them to go together since they have been together for the last 6 months, but I just want them to go to a loving home, even if that means separately. They haven't been around dogs so I don't know if they would get along...they are good with other cats. We hate to see them go, but we have no choice.

Stray Animal Fund

If you have looked through our recent posts, you might have guessed that your friends at West Ridge Animal Hospital have undertaken a new Labor of Love: caring for homeless animals in need of medical treatment. The Weld County Humane Society is not able to medically treat most strays, which left a hole that many homeless animals fell through.

I imagine many of your hearts reach out to these animals in need, but can not offer them a home. If this is the case and you would like to offer help, we invite you to stop by, mail, call, or just toss your spare change in our Stray Animal Fund jar at the front desk. Hello there! My name is Ruthie. I am a 2 year old spayed Ragdoll. I am micro chipped, declawed, and up to date on my vaccines. I am definitely the best cat you will ever meet. I am extremely easy going, sweet, and a joy to be around. I enjoy lying in laps, sleeping in the sink, and playing with my toys. I even follow my owner around like a dog! I just love being with people so much that I want to be wherever they are. My ideal home is one without other cats and dogs; however, I may be ok in a home with docile dogs and/or cats. You see, because I am so sweet and submissive, I need to be in a home with other animals that will not push me around. I would love to go to a home with kids, I enjoy playing with them. My current owner is devastated that she has to give me up due to allergies from her family members so I must go to the perfect home. Hello there! My name is Yellow Dog. I am a spayed female Border collie mix and I am about 5 to 8 years old. I am such a good girl and I've been through so much. I am looking for a loving and caring family who will treat me the way I deserve to be treated for the rest of my life. For the first 4 to 5 years of my life I was left in a small kennel with another dog and never got to come out. We both were neglected, unsocialized, and practically abandoned and all we had were each other. Thankfully I was rescued from that horrible place by a wonderful woman. Although she had a full house with many, many dogs and a large number of cats she still took me into her home. I was so thankful for a warm place to live, human contact, and good food. However, much to everyone’s dismay, I do not particularly get along with all of her animals. This is the reason that I must find another home. I would be best in a family that does not have any other pets; however, I might get along with other medium, senior dogs. Due to the fact that I was so neglected the majority of my life, I crave attention. I am very loyal to my family members and will never miss an opportunity to curl up on their lap. I am crate trained and house broken. I would just adore a family that could spend a lot of time with me and a family that has the patience to work with me.
