Is there an unsuspected danger lurking in your yard?
Lawn edging. It’s harmless, right? Unfortunately, the metal version actually causes many injuries each year; to both dogs and children. According to an American Animal Hospital Association's article, Amanda Duffy, DVM, MS, DACVECC, of Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital says she "was surprised to see so many injuries related to lawn edging after moving to Colorado from the Boston area". She decided a study was in order to increase the public’s awareness. So, for ten years, she watched for dogs with these injuries, and she found them. Not only were dogs injured, but “of the 60 dogs in the study, 85 percent of them needed surgery, and 18 percent required extensive surgical repair of skin, subcutaneous tissue, and muscle, tendon, or fascia.”
The thought of removing all your metal edging and replacing it is, to say the least, daunting. Looking for a solution, I searched the internet for metal lawn edging cover and immediately found a product called Guard-N-Edge that simply slides over your existing edging!
