Homeless Bunny update

I just received an update on the cutest little bunny you've ever seen.

This past summer, a family brought this bunny in to West Ridge Animal Hospital for euthanasia. Dr Combs recommended she be relinquished to The House Rabbit Society and they have been generously caring for her. Here's what my e-mail said:

Little Opal was purchased for a couple of children. Sadly, they broke her leg, and the mom took her to the vet to be euthanized.

The veterinarian suggested that she relinquish the little rabbit with the big ears to us. He splinted the leg, and we took her for x-rays. It turned out that the break was through a growth plate, and required very expensive surgery by a Diplomate of Surgery. With two pins holding things in place, the leg was wrapped, and we kept her fairly quiet while it healed.

Opal, who was born in late July or August of 2007, was only 10 weeks old and weighed less than a pound with her cast on when we got her, now by winter, she is up to 3-1/2 lbs. She is recovering nicely, growing quickly, and totally enjoying all the spoiling and attention being showered on her by all our enraptured volunteers.

She'll be ready to move in with a nice family as soon as she's old enough to be spayed. Then she'd really "like to come home with you for dinner", she says. "You have salad and I'll have hay...and a little of your salad. That will work out great for all of us!"
