Forever Learning, learning, learning!

Some people may think a veterinarian’s life is nothing but fun: playing with cute puppies and kittens all day at work, leaving the job at the hospital when they head home. Not so. At least not for our doctors… Here at West Ridge Animal Hospital, our DVMs are dedicated to the animals they treat. In the last six weeks or so, four of our Drs have taken extended weekend trips (1 Dr even took two!) out of state to expand their education so they can better care for your beloved pets.

Just last week, Dr Rebecca Hubert flew out to Tennessee for an educational conference by VECCS (Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society). Of particular interest to her was the comparison and progress in human and animal CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation), transfusion medicine, and especially the new FAST scan technology. FAST, or Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma, is a new ultrasound technique performed to detect blood around the heart or internal organs as a result of trauma allowing for faster, more direct treatment during an emergency.

Which leads us to the other four educational weekends taken by our doctors to learn all about… our very own, new ultrasound machine! We are now able to perform in-house ultrasounds- including the FAST scan- allowing us to provide the very best for your animals.

Nothing could make us happier.
