Labrador Most Popular Purebred

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the Lab is the most popular purebred dog in the country, coming in at No. 1 for the eighteenth consecutive year. The bulldog is climbing the list, however, and jumped from the No. 10 spot in 2007 to take eighth in 2008. That breed has increased in popularity (as judged by registration statistics) by 69 percent in the last 10 years. The French bulldog also posted huge gains since 1998, increasing in popularity by 467 percent to take the No. 26 berth in 2008. At the bottom of the list was the American foxhound, a breed developed by George Washington.
