Motion Sickness in Dogs

Are you aware that 17% of dogs get car sick? If you are the lucky owner of one of those 17%, you know all about dogs and motion sickness. The mess, the smell... How could you forget?

You probably also know about the "remedies" available when you need to take your pet for a ride:
- Use ginger supplements, which are questionable in their efficacy
- Give your pet Benadryl (diphenhydramine) from the store, knowing full well that your dog will stumble through the rest of the day.
- Keep your trunk stocked with a large amount of paper towels, plastic sacks, and deodorizer!

Are any of the above really satisfactory, though? Some may or may not work, others leave your pet in a drug-induced fog all day. The third option? Well, that's just surrendering.

There is no need to waive the white flag anymore! You have a new weapon against motion sickness:

Cerenia!!

It is simple to use; withhold your dog's food three hours before leaving, one hour later (two hours before departing) just give the prescribed amount of Cerenia. Simple! This new medication has been scientifically proven to be up to 93% effective when given two hours before departure. And don't worry, if you have to leave very early in the morning, you can withhold food and give Cerenia the night before- although this does slightly decrease the efficacy.

Plus, Cerenia lasts for 24 hours- meaning it only has to be given once a day! It can be given once daily for two days in a row.

So, if your dog is one prone to motion sickness, be sure to speak to your West Ridge veterinarian for a prescription of Cerenia; and look forward to enjoying riding in the car with your pet!

*Cerenia is for dogs only*
